Mercer Boria hotel, Barcelona

Design accommodation in Barcelona's gothic quarter.

As you know from the previous post, we visited Barcelona some months ago and for the trip we picked the Mercer Boria Hotel, first of all, because of its location right in the gothic quarter, in a peaceful narrow street near metro stops, bars and nightlife but without the chaos of the Ramblas.
The nice bonus was the design of the hotel: All rooms are modern, spacious and filled with design pieces like lamps, couches, chairs, etc. Free wi-fi and clean, modern bathrooms complete the package. The nice lobby doesn't actually seem one from the outside, it looks more like a design office or specialty bookshop.
Staff is nice and helpful and breakfast is part buffet (for cheese, ham, sweets) and part made to order (eggs) - again, design pieces also in the breakfast room. As I wrote, the position couldn't be better, a couple of blocks away from the Boria and Santa Caterina markets with lots of other food options nearby, from basque tapas bars, wine bars to fine dining. Great for sightseeing because it is a 5 minutes walk away from the Cathedral, the Plaza de Espanya (and the bus to/from the airport) and 10 minutes from the Ramblas; the nearby metro stop connects you to the rest of the city. Next time we are in Barcelona, this will definitely be one of our first choices for accommodation.
