Loews Hollywood

We had a pleasant 2 night stay at the Loews Hollywood last month.

Since it was our first time to L.A. and Hollywood, we didn't know what to expect, or which was the best area to stay at. But after some research on forums and an early-bird offer on a hotel booking website, we decided to go for the Loews.
Formerly known as the Reinaissance Hollywood, Loews is a modern 4-star hotel located on N Highland Ave, right behind the Kodak theater (where the Oscars ceremony is held) and Hollywood Boulevard, with direct access to the Hollywood & Highland shopping center.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, perhaps a little bit outdated, some with views to the Hollywood sign (if you have a nice zoom you can get good pictures of it from the rooms or rooftop - I couldn't get any pictures from the room). There's a gym and spa, a very nice rooftop pool with bar and a Starbucks in the lobby.
A nice touch was the complimentary fresh water with orange slices in the lobby.

The area is OK if you are staying for a couple of nights in L.A. and want to be in a lively (by day) area, next to the subway (Hollywood&Highland) and to shops, the Walk of Fame, Chinese theater and many restaurants. The area of Hollywood Boulevard between N Highland Ave and N La Brea Ave is OK at night, since there are many restaurants and sourvenir shops open until midnight or later, but try to avoid the rest of Hollywood Boulevard, not because it's particularly dangerous but it gets a bit deserted at night and homeless people are around, they might be harmless but it's better not to risk.
