Mercado Victoria, Cordoba

"Happy ever after in the market place..."

The Mercado Victoria is one of those pleasant surprises Cordoba has to offer. Especially for market nuts like myself.

My obsession with food markets started a while ago at the Mercado San Miguel in Madrid, where we had a dish of delicious oysters for breakfast (followed by jamón ibérico and pulpo a feira, you know, since we were there...), so everywhere we go, I always check if there's a food market worth checking out and turns out Mercado Victoria is one of those.
It is located in the heart of the Victoria Gardens (close to our hotel) and it has everything you wish for: oysters, seafood, cold cuts, wine, salmorejo, even Mexican, Argentinian and other types of food! Both to bring home and also to eat there.
We tried the oysters (there was a deal of 2 glasses of cava and 6 oysters for 19 euro) from Daniel Sorlut, the delicious stuffed mussels (5€ for a dish) from La Gamba de Oro, the salmorejo from La Salmoreteca and some cheese and wine from Sherry & Wine, that was our lunch and we were full and happy - even though prices are not really cheap but the quality of everything was very good, and this way we could have a taste of many of the things we wanted to eat in our Andalucian weekend.
While I actually expected it to be bigger, there were plenty of other choices and seating space both inside and outside in the patio. Definitely a place to visit if you call yourself a foodie while in Cordoba.
